The 2010 Miss Buffalo Scholarship Pageant competition will take place during the National Buffalo Wing Festival on Sunday, September 5, 2010 at 12:30pm at Coca-Cola Field. 

Aside from reigning as the official "Queen" of the Wing Fest, Miss Buffalo 2010 goes on to represent the Queen City in the 2011 Miss New York State Scholarship Pageant, the official state preliminary to the Miss America Pageant.  And as such, the pageant includes all areas of competition and scoring consistent with the Miss New York and Miss America Organizations. Here is what you must do in order to take part in this year's competition:


1.  Complete the official entry application (Fact Sheet) for the 2010 Miss Buffalo Pageant

2.  Email the completed Fact Sheet to: missbuffalopageant@buffalo.com by the deadline: Sunday, August 29, 2010

3.  Send one proof of residency along with the fact sheet.  (Scan a copy of a valid driver's license, utility bill, college transcript, tuition statement or voter registration card.) Or you can fax it to: 716-299-2121.
4.  You will be contacted by email when your fact sheet is received and your place in the competition is reserved.  Participation is limited.  Send in completed fact sheets ASAP.
5.  Be available to take part in a rehearsal workshop on Sunday, August 29, 2010 at 1:00-2:00pm.

6. Be available to take part in a five minute Private Interview on Wednesday, September 1st at 6:00pm.

7.  Be available to take part in a mandatory rehearsal on Friday, September 3, 2010 from 6:00pm to 9:00pm.
8.  Make a $20 charitable donation to the Children's Miracle Network. (Checks made payable to "Miss Buffalo Organization".
Memo: Childrens Miracle Network.) These will be collected at Saturday's rehearsal.
9.  As the newly crowned Miss Buffalo, be available to make personal appearances during Wing Fest weekend and throughout the year.

ELIGIBILITY REQUIREMENTS:

Contestants must be single and never married, not pregnant and between the ages of 17 and 23.  She must be a legal resident of one of the 15 counties of Western New York and a U.S. Citizen. (College dormitory residency is acceptable.)  She must also be of good moral character with no criminal record or criminal charges pending.

COMPETITION REQUIREMENTS:

  • Interview - a five minute private judges interview (worth 25% of score)
  • Talent - perform a 90 second talent presentation (worth 35% of score. Musical accompaniment must be on CD and brought to private interview.)
  • Physical Fitness in Swimsuit - model a one or two piece suit, any color or style (worth 15% of score)
  • Eveningwear - model a formal outfit on stage (worth 20% of score)
  • On-stage question - answer a general knowledge/opinion question (worth 5% of score)


WARDROBE REQUIREMENTS:

  • Interview - an outfit appropriate for a job interview
  • Talent - a costume that compliments the talent presentation
  • Swimsuit - one or two piece suimsuit, any color or style, with high heeled sandals as footwear
  • Eveningwear - an "After Five-type" formal outfit, any length
  • Opening number - black full-length pants and black high heels (shoes or sandals).  Medium size rhinestone hoop earrings.  Top will be provided.


VOLUNTEER SERVICE and the PLATFORM ISSUE:  The Miss New York State and Miss America Organizations encourage the young women who participate in their programs to become involved in the community, to develop a platform and to speak out on issues of concern to them, their community and the nation.  Therefore Miss Buffalo Contestants are asked to choose a social issue they would like to champion should they be chosen as the titleholder.  Contestants are encouraged to choose an issue to which they have a personal connection or have already performed volunteer community service. Some examples might include Breast Cancer Awareness,  Eradicating Literacy,  Finding a Cure for Muscular Dystrophy, Promoting Healthy Lifestyles, Encouraging Bi-lingual Education, etc.  Contestants should be prepared to discuss this in the private interview with the judges.

DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:  Miss Buffalo is a volunteer spokesperson for the National Buffalo Wing Festival. She must have a working knowledge of the festival events and sponsors, as well as an understanding of the heritage connected to Chicken Wings and the City of Buffalo/Western New York.  (This information is available here on the festival website:  www.buffalowing.com.  Miss Buffalo will make personal appearances throughout the two day festival, as well as events following the festival and those prior to next year's event. The newly crowned titleholder should plan to spend the remainder of the day at the Festival, making personal appearances and taking part in media interviews. The titleholder may not make any appearances as "Miss Buffalo" without the expressed written permission of Just Wing It Productions, Inc. Miss Buffalo will not be financially compensated for making
personal appearances.

PRIZES:  Miss Buffalo becomes eligible to win an expenses paid trip to Albany, New York in June 2011 to take part in the Miss New York State Pageant.  (Includes 5 nights hotel, meals, travel and entry fees.) Valued at approximately $2,000.  In addition, Miss Buffalo will receive a $250 scholarship, a crown, banner and trophy.  The first runner-up will receive a $150 scholarship. The second runner-up will receive a $100 scholarship. In addition, Miss Buffalo and the runners-up will be eligible to receive tuition scholarships to Buffalo State College. Details regarding eligibility for these awards will be available at the rehearsal workshop.
