Food Network Star Duff Goldman and Sand Ox Band
To Spice Up Wing Fest’s 10th Birthday Celebration
Ace of Cakes star brings his band to national festival
BUFFALO, N.Y. – August 16, 2011 – The National Buffalo Wing Fest, the world’s most recognized and popular celebration of the chicken wing, today announced that Duff Goldman, star of the Food Network’s Ace of Cakes and Sugar High, will be on hand with his band, Sand Ox to judge this year’s 10th Birthday Cake Contest as well as perform live. According to Wing Fest spokesperson, Wing King Drew Cerza, Sand Ox will highlight the Saturday evening entertainment schedule.
“Since this is Wing Fest’s 10th birthday, we are celebrating with a special birthday cake contest,” Cerza said. “And who better to judge our cake competition than the Ace of Cakes himself, Duff Goldman along with the members of his Sand Ox Band. We also have the added bonus of featuring Duff and his Sand Ox band Saturday night on our main stage. No doubt it will be the perfect way to celebrate Wing Fest’s 10th birthday.”
Sand Ox is a four man- experimental/instrumental rock band comprised of Duff on bass, Honus on drums, Yungwirth on guitar and Lukas guitar, keys, percussion and samples. With a collection of 4 CDs and 2 EPs to their credit, Sand Ox is currently performing on a summer road tour that includes stops in Chicago, Minneapolis, and Harrisburg, as well as Buffalo. It’s an ambitious schedule that Goldman fully enjoys.
“The best part about playing in the band is that it gives me a creative outlet that is just fun,” Goldman said. “I get to go on the road with my band and play awesome music for audiences around the country and it’s great. I can’t wait for Wing Fest. I know it will be a blast.”
All Wing Fest cake contest entries must be submitted through the Wing festival website (www.buffalowing.com.) A picture of the cake and the baker, as well as the general recipe idea and cake name, must be included with any submission. Contest entries will be accepted from August 16th through August 27th. Three finalists will be announced in each division on Monday, August 29. Finalists will present their cakes on the main stage of the National Buffalo Wing Festival Sunday, September 4th at 1pm before a panel of judges including Duff Goldman and his Sand Ox band. All cakes may be no bigger than 11”x14”wide and two feet high. Cakes will be judged on design, presentation, taste and creative execution of 10th Wing Festival Birthday theme with a chicken wing flair. Cakes and frostings must be made from scratch.
ABOUT THE NATIONAL BUFFALO WING FEST: Wing Fest was started in 2001 by Buffalo native/Wing King, Drew Cerza, who was inspired by the movie, Osmosis Jones, in which star Bill Murray promotes a Chicken Wing Festival. ABOUT DREW CERZA: National Buffalo Wing Fest founder/Wing King, Drew Cerza, is a born and bred Western New Yorker who, since founding the Wing Fest in 2001, has become a national media star. ABOUT SAND OX: Sand Ox is a 4-piece jam, experimental, instrumental rock band from Baltimore, Maryland led by Duff Goldman from the Food Network series, Ace of Cakes.and Sugar High. ABOUT DUFF GOLDMAN: Duff has been cooking since the age of 4, when his Mom caught him in the kitchen swinging around a meat cleaver while watching Julia Child on TV. After studying at the Culinary Institute of America in Napa Valley, California, Duff worked at several acclaimed culinary destinations, including the French Laundry, the Vail Cascade Hotel, and Todd English's Olives. In 2002 he returned to his beloved Baltimore to open Charm City Cakes. . The bakery became a household name via a hit show on the Food Network, The Ace of Cakes.
